A taco is a Mexican preparation that in its standard form consists of a folded or rolled tortilla (usually corn, also of Prickly Wheat flour or some other ingredient) that contains some food on top and some type of sauce. It is considered one of the most representative dishes of Mexican food.
Tacos can also be double tortilla when the food they contain is too heavy to contain with a single tortilla.
The tacos can be simple homemade to contain the food prepared at the moment, a simply rolled omelet, a tortilla sprinkled with salt, or also hot sauces; They can also be more complex such as tacos al pastor, canasta or flautas (fried tacos). All these variations are accompanied by different elements that can be vegetables, sauces, grated cheeses, creams, and lemon depending on the type and taste of the person. The ingredients and accompaniments vary from region to region, but some preparations remain fixed regardless of location.
Today, tacos are widespread worldwide as a type of fast food. However, what is known as taco internationally are the American-influenced tacos that differ greatly in ingredients and preparation from Mexicans and come from Tex-Mex food, which influences the way of preparation and flavor.
Likewise, although the standard taco is made with an omelet of some kind, in Mexican restaurants of high gastronomy or fusion cuisine, the omelet can be substituted for lettuce leaf, onion leaf, or some similar ingredient.
